Open Minds. Open Hearts. Open Doors.
Welcome Visitors!

Welcome to the Simsbury United Methodist Church.  We are located right in the middle of scenic Simsbury, CT.  Our beautiful building is on the National Register of Historic Places, and we are proud of our unique brownstone building and our beautiful Tiffany windows.  But (as the children's song goes), "The church is not a building, ........ the church is a people".  Many people who join our fellowship remark that we are a warm and welcoming congregation.  We invite you to join us this Sunday!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Getting to church

We are located on Hopmeadow Street in the center of Simsbury across the street from Andy's Market.  Click here for detailed directions.

Where do I Park?

There are marked "visitor" parking spaces directly in front of you when you turn into the lot off of Hopmeadow Street.  If these are full (along with the rest of the lot), you may park on Hopmeadow Street across from the church.  There is also overflow parking off of Plank Hill Road......turn into the second driveway on your left past Hopmeadow Street.

How should I dress?

Some people like to wear their "Sunday best", and you will certainly see suits, ties and dresses. However, many people wear casual clothes to church, (including jeans, shorts and sneakers) particularly at the 9:00 a.m. service.  Be comfortable......God cares about what you look like on the inside!

What about my children?

Children of all ages are welcome at any worship service.  Nursery care is available for children age two and under during the 9:00 and 10:30 services.  The nursery is located in the back corner of the education wing, directly across from the playground.  If you enter from the covered walkway, turn right after you come in, and then turn right again at the end of the hall.  If you enter from Hopemeadow Street, go through Wesley Hall, straight past the restrooms, and turn right at the end of the hallway.  Click here for a floorplan of the church.  Church School for ages two through High School begins at 10:30.  Look on the kiosk in Wesley Hall to see which room your child belongs in.  To find out more about our church school program, click here.

Where Can I Hang my Coat?

You can find coat racks in three locations at SUMC.  If you are entering through the main doors on Hopmeadow Street, you will see  a coat rack in the entryway, next to the double doors that lead into the sanctuary.  If you are entering through the covered walkway by the playground, there is a coat rack on your right after you pass through the second set of double doors, near the door to Wesley Hall.  Additionally, you may hang  your coat at the south end of Wesley Hall near the entrance to the sanctuary.

Where are the restrooms?

The easiest restrooms to find are in the educational wing, which is near the playground.  If you are entering through the covered walkway, pass through the second set of double doors and look for the bathrooms around the corner in the first hallway to your right.  If you starting in the sanctuary, go through the doors in the front on the right.  Proceed down the stairs and through Wesley Hall.  Pass through the double doors and you will see the bathrooms in the hall in front of you.

May I take Communion?

At SUMC, we have an "open table".  You may commune with the congregation regardless of your religious background.  Anyone may particpate who responds affirmatively to the invitation:  "Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another".
